Oh Captain, My Captain

I’m a senior in college now! *commence fireworks*

I got the whole celebratory stand-up in chapel and clap for the seniors moment. And then it dawned on me.

I’m leaving college to have a career and a family and I have no idea how to get there.

I shifted in my seat as I listened to Brain Houston preach about dreams (yeah, I’ll pick up that name I just dropped later).

When I came to ORU, my main mission was to start my own ministry. I was raised in church and saw all the goods and bads of ministry. I wanted a ministry where the good far outweighed the bad. I wanted a ministry where teenagers could experience the love of Christ like none other, where I could travel the world and sing the gospel (I would say preach, but that’s not my forte).

As I sit in my college dorm, my last college dorm room ever, I can’t help but to be a little bit discouraged.

I feel like a tiny little boat in the middle of the Atlantic. I could stir in any direction. Expect, I’m not sure which direction is which.

The beautiful thing about this is that I have an amazing captain. He created my ship. He knows which way it needs to turn. He knows all of the waves that will crash over me. He knows how to navigate me in the middle of a storm. And He knows exactly where I’m going.

For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. (Jeremiah 29:11 NLT)

When this scripture was written, the Israelites were in between a rock and a hard place. This scripture is actually a prophesy. The verses right before this one actually tells the Israelites that they will be in Babylon (that’s the rock/hard place) for 70 years! 70 YEARS!

But God made them a promised. And He reassured them that He has a plan for them. He promised them that this is not the end for them.

Hopefully, I’m not in my Babylon for 70 years. That’ll make me 91. Regardless, I know what God promised me. The desires that are in my heart were place there by Him.

Beloved, He has a plan. Whether you’re a senior in college, a senior in high school, or a senior in life, God has a plan for your life. He’s stirring your boat. He’s the captain and He has it all under control.

xoxo, Ticia

We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps. (Proverbs 16:9 NLT)
